Drums and Hand Percussion from Around the World

Drums and Small Percussion from India and Pakistan

The music of India has ancient roots which are linked to the Hindu view of the cosmos. The rhythms of India, the tala, are complex in nature and played by drummers using a wide variety of strokes to express their fluid concept of rhythm.

The Tabla is the most popular percussion instrument of northern India. The set includes two drums, each tuned to a different pitch; the bayan (or doogi)), played with the left hand, is a kettledrum made of brass. The tabla (right hand drum) is made of wood. The heads are permanently treated with black tuning paste. This is a professional model. The set comes complete with case, tuning hammer, drum coverings and cushions. [tab-22] $325.

Dholak, a two-headed, tuneable wood drum. It is held horizontally and played with the hands for folk music, dances and festivals. From India.
